The artist is renowned for her traditional Chinese Fine Line paintings of the human figure, and her style is readily recognizable by the prominent local and rural flavors in her works. Her works have been exhibited, printed in catalogue of Nationwide Young Artists in China and presented as gifts to Italy, Japan and Hong Kong. In 1989, she held an individual exhibition in Singapore and in 1990, she held a joint exhibition in Japan and Taiwan.

Born 1944, Hepu, Guangxi, China
Member of the Chinese Artists Association, permanent council member of the Guangdong Branch of the Chinese Artists Association, and director of the Guangzhou Academy of Chinese Paintings.
He graduated from the fine arts school attached to the Guangzhou Arts Institute in 1963, specialising in figures. His works have a strong personal style and profound meaning and flavour, especially when expressing the rural life and customs. He has had eight works exhibited in ten national exhibitions. His main thesis “Man in Life” was published in the journal “Fine Arts” in 1983. The paper deals with the realism school of painting. In 1987 he held an exhibition of his works and published “Collection of Paintings by Zhang Shaocheng”. In the same year, he won a prize at the painting competition between the Guangzhou Academy of Arts and the Arts School of Dortmund of Germany. The following year, he held an exhibition of his works in Tokyo, Japan and in 1990, he won the gold medal at the Guangdong Provincial Arts Exhibition.

Gu Yang entered the Yangzhou Institute of Chinese Painting in 1978 as a professional artist. He is presently a member of the Jiangsu Artists Association and the Vice-President of the Yangzhou Institute of Chinese Painting.
